In 1995 a college student in Utah built an eight-foot beanbag out of foam offcuts and camping fabric because he wanted somewhere to watch films. People kept asking for one. Lovesac was founded in 1998 to make them, and the Sac is still on sale.
The idea that made the company was Sactionals, launched in 2006: a couch made of seats and sides that clip together, so it can be rearranged, washed and added to instead of thrown out. Every piece made since fits every piece made today.
